L’Écrin is the extension of a Montreal plex located in the lively, student-filled Côte-des-Neiges neighborhood. The clients chose to collaborate with Appareil Architecture for their new addition, which not only houses a new kitchen and living area but also creates a semi-covered outdoor space that meets their need for privacy in the backyard. This new part of the building is elegantly attached to the existing residence, establishing a smooth and gradual transition between indoors and outdoors.

“Since the backyard is located at the end of the block and was clearly visible from the surrounding homes, the challenge was to open up the space to let in natural light while still creating a sense of privacy.”
Marie-Andrée Bérubé, Architect
